As the search continued, a third body, that of an unidentified man, was also found in the river. While the man’s identity remains unknown, drowning is suspected as the cause of death. Johnson Wachira, the Gichugu sub-county police commander, corroborated the incident, indicating that a watchman at a nearby coffee factory had witnessed the woman and her child entering the river, suggesting a possible suicide.

The motive behind the tragic event remains unclear. The woman’s body and her five-year-old child, who had been recovered earlier, were transported to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus.

Meanwhile, the unidentified man’s body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary for further investigation. The incident has deeply unsettled the residents of Kabiro-ini village, with Wangui’s grandmother, Fridah Njoki, revealing that the deceased had visited her while her parents, who work as civil servants in Embu County, were away.

This occurrence adds to the concerning trend of rising suicide cases in the country, often attributed to societal pressures and trauma. Police statistics indicate a daily average of at least two reported suicide cases, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and support.
