A Nairobi woman has been apprehended for posing as a detective from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Ms. Ezely Omwoyo, alias ‘Jacinta’ is suspected of deceiving government officials, contractors, suppliers, and the public, allegedly swindling them out of large sums of money.
By masquerading as a prominent “Anti-Corruption Lawyer and Investigator” at EACC, she purportedly convinced her victims that they were implicated in corruption cases and could avoid prosecution by paying her exorbitant sums, usually in the millions.

The woman claimed she had connections within EACC, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the Anti-Corruption Court to facilitate this.
According to Eric Ngumbi, the spokesperson for EACC, the suspect’s arrest followed an investigation into a complaint lodged on April 30, 2024. The complainant, a senior government official, was summoned by the woman, who identified herself as Jacinta from EACC, and threatened with arrest if he failed to comply.

However, suspicious of her motives and aware of his innocence, the official alerted EACC. An operation ensued, resulting in her arrest at the Nairobi Public Service Club while attempting to negotiate a bribe to drop the fabricated charges.
Ngumbi stated that she would face charges of impersonating an EACC investigator under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
