A 17-year-old third-year student who disappeared after fatally injuring his 12-year-old cousin in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, has been apprehended.
The teenager, a student at Gathuthiini Secondary School, was captured at his uncle’s residence in Ruaka, Kiambu County, as confirmed by Kirinyaga Police Commander Andrew Naibei.
Naibei stated that the teenager believed his uncle was unaware of the incident in Kagio, prompting his confession upon arriving in Ruaka. Family members revealed that the teenager confessed to his uncle about the incident and admitted to selling his bicycle to fund his journey with intentions to harm his grandmother.

The tragic event occurred while the teenager was alone with his cousin, who was engaged in homework, as her mother was at the market.
The victim’s mother, Pauline Wairimu, a teacher at Rwang’ondu Primary School, expressed profound regret for inviting the teenager to stay with them due to his schooling in Kirinyaga.

Naibei further stated that the teenager would be transferred from Kiambu to Kirinyaga on Saturday, where he would be detained at Kiamaciri Police Station pending court proceedings for murder charges.
