Murkomen Oversees Resumption of KQ Flights to Eldoret

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday oversaw the resumption of Kenya Airways (KQ) flights to Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, after a decade-long hiatus, marking a significant milestone for the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) region and its adjacent counties.

This move, celebrated as a beacon of confidence and hope for economic enrichment, aligns with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) aimed at enhancing connectivity and facilitating the efficient movement of goods and people across Kenya.

According to the transport boss, the reinstated flights underscore the potential of counties as drivers of growth and opportunity, reflecting a collective commitment to regional development and economic prosperity.

With Kenya Airways’ extensive international network spanning across four continents and numerous codeshares and alliances, the Eldoret route holds promise for fostering vital connections between families, facilitating business opportunities, and nurturing the local tourism industry.

CS Murkomen emphasized the significance of this development in empowering small and large-scale farmers in the NOREB region to leverage diversified transport logistics for accessing markets such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and the Kenya-US African Growth Opportunity Agreement (AGOA).

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including parliamentary committees, government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities, CS Murkomen expressed gratitude for the support received. He particularly commended the leadership of county governments in Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Bungoma, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Trans Nzoia for their contributions to realizing this milestone.

The resumption of KQ flights to Eldoret signifies not only improved regional connectivity but also a step forward in advancing national development goals, as emphasized by CS Murkomen.

As celebrations ensue, stakeholders look forward to the socioeconomic benefits that this renewed connectivity will bring to the NOREB region and beyond.
