Joseph Mwenda, widely known as DJ Joe Mfalme, has finally broken his silence after being apprehended in connection with the death of a high-ranking officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following an altercation in Kiambu County.
Mwenda, accompanied by his bouncer, driver, and photographer, is accused of assaulting Deputy DCIO Felix Kelian at Kikuyu market on March 16. The DJ was taken into custody over the weekend along with three police officers from Kikuyu Police Station.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mwenda expressed condolences to those affected by the unfortunate incident and asserted his cooperation with investigative authorities. He emphasized their trust in both divine intervention and the authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent inquiry to ascertain the truth.
Acknowledging the ongoing investigation and the sensitivity of the matter, Mwenda stated that they would refrain from making further comments at this juncture. Currently detained at Kabete Police Station, the DJ affirmed his commitment to cooperating as necessary.
According to reports, the altercation ensued after a minor collision between Kelian’s vehicle and Mwenda’s entourage in the parking lot of the club where the DJ had performed. Allegedly, Kelian was detained by Mwenda and his associates following the incident but was later released without providing a statement.
Tragically, Kelian succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation. Medical reports revealed injuries to his urinary bladder, resulting in his inability to pass urine upon arrival at the hospital, ultimately leading to his demise.
Apart from Mwenda, three police officers—Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Rotich Cherono, and Agnes Kerubo Mugo—have been apprehended in connection with the incident. Authorities continue to pursue additional suspects, including a woman purportedly present during the altercation.
