Four people were killed on Friday afternoon after armed bandits attacked residents at Itimba Ithei area in Tseikuru, Kitui County.
According to authorities, the attackers opened fire on locals who had taken their livestock to a watering point at around 12:30 p.m., leaving four people dead. The incident occurred near Kwa Kamari, escalating security concerns in the region.
Kitui County Commissioner, Robert Mbui, confirmed the attack and said security officers had been deployed to the area and were pursuing the assailants.
The latest incident comes just days after seven people were killed in a separate attack in the same area, highlighting the persistent insecurity facing residents of Tseikuru and its surrounding villages.
Authorities have launched investigations into the attack as efforts to track down the perpetrators continue.
Residents have meanwhile called for enhanced security measures to curb the recurring banditry incidents that have claimed several lives in recent days.
