Woman Alleges Paternity by Kiptum, Court Rejects Bid to Halt Burial

The high court in Eldoret has dismissed a request to halt the burial of Kelvin Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, made by a 22-year-old woman who claims to have had a child with him.

Justice Wananda declined the plea to stop the burial after Edna Owuor, represented by her lawyer Joseph Oyaro, filed an application.

Owuor asserts that she shares a one-year and 7-month-old child with the athlete, whose rights she fears may be compromised if the burial proceeds.

Presenting herself at the court with the child, Owuor argued that she had not been involved in the burial arrangements and requested DNA samples to confirm paternity.

However, Wananda noted that the burial preparations had been ongoing for a considerable period, incurring significant costs, and deemed it unjust to halt the interment.
