Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called upon the Council of Governors (CoG) and state agencies to expedite the clearance of outstanding bills for the fiscal year 2022/23.
Gachagua convened a meeting at his Karen residence on Monday, hosting the CoG, state agencies, and senior government officials for the 22nd Ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Budget Economic Council (IBEC).
He emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring timely disbursement of funds to counties, highlighting that payments are nearly current up to December 2023.
“Timely payments for goods and services inject funds into our economy, fostering economic growth for a more robust and vibrant economy. Let money circulate,” he emphasized.
The deputy president also urged leaders to collaborate with the national government in combating corruption, which poses a significant threat to the escalating wage bill.
“Addressing the challenges posed by the rising wage bill is imperative. Corruption jeopardizes both levels of government, and it is essential for us to collectively implement control measures to ensure compliance with procurement and expenditure regulations,” Gachagua emphasized.
He commended leaders for their support of the government’s ambitious plans to stimulate economic growth in the country. Gachagua affirmed President William Ruto’s personal commitment to the success of devolution and enhanced service delivery to all Kenyans.
