Turkana County has been equipped with 2,454 kits and an equal number of tablets to cater to 225 operational community health units.
These kits include supplies for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) to address minor health issues within the community. Additionally, the county has acquired 2,454 phones designated for distribution to CHPs for digital reporting.
Dr. Erus, the Deputy Governor, acknowledged the crucial role of CHPs in delivering community health services and advocated for the seamless integration of national and county government health structures to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare services.
County Commissioner Jacob Ouma encouraged CHPs to promote the construction of latrines in households as a measure to reduce the prevalence of hygiene-related diseases. Peter Lomorukai, the County Chief Officer, emphasized that the launch of the kits marks the initiation of household registration, aiming to enhance health services at the community level.
Bethwel Kobongin, the Health Committee chair, praised the committee’s initiatives to ensure that sub-county hospitals have an adequate number of doctors, nurses, and clinical officers to enhance access to healthcare services.
