The Karua family was joined by political leaders, relatives, friends and mourners in Kirinyaga on Saturday as they gathered to pay their final respects to Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua.

Mzee Jackson was laid to rest at the family home in Kathande, Gichugu, after a funeral service held at Mugumo Primary School.

His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives gathered to honour the family patriarch and celebrate his life.

During the funeral, Karua reflected on the values her father instilled in his children and the memories they created together over the years.

She said the lessons he taught them, the values he embodied, the stories they shared and the love he showed them would continue to shape their lives.

The late Mwalimu’s great-grandchildren were visibly emotional as they paid tribute to their “Guka” during the service.

They remembered him as a loving family man who led prayers, encouraged them to pursue their studies and brought joy and laughter to family gatherings.

The funeral also brought together political leaders from across the political divide, who joined the Karua family in mourning and conveying their condolences.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta attended the ceremony alongside Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and PPK leader Ndindi Nyoro, among other leaders.

The leaders joined relatives, friends and members of the local community in honouring Mzee Jackson and standing with the Karua family during their time of mourning.

Mzee Jackson was remembered as a dedicated educator and family man whose impact was felt across generations.
