Naitwa Mwangi, a photographer and drone operator attached to President William Ruto,Naitwa Mwangi, a photographer and drone operator attached to President William Ruto, has sparked political debate after claiming that defeating the Head of State in the 2027 General Election is “practically impossible.”
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Mwangi argued that President Ruto’s victory in the 2022 General Election demonstrated his political strength despite facing a united front of powerful political figures and the state establishment.
According to Mwangi, the 2022 election saw then-President Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho combining forces against Ruto, but failing to stop his rise to power.
He further claimed that “serious people” are already looking beyond the 2027 elections and are instead focusing on the 2032 presidential race, when President Ruto is expected to leave office after serving two terms.
Mwangi also alleged that some opposition leaders are aware they are unlikely to unseat Ruto in 2027 and are instead backing Kalonzo Musyoka with the expectation that a loss could generate political sympathy and position them more strongly for the 2032 elections.

He suggested that if Kalonzo decides to contest in 2027, he should first secure commitments from those supporting him now to back his presidential bid in 2032.
The remarks have generated discussion online, adding to the growing political conversation surrounding the 2027 General Election. Neither Kalonzo Musyoka nor other opposition leaders mentioned in the post had publicly responded to Mwangi’s claims at the time of publication.
