Transport was disrupted on Thursday along Waiyaki Way near the 87 Junction as Kenya marked the second anniversary of the June 25, 2024, Gen Z-led protests against the Finance Bill.
By 5:00 a.m., police had set up a roadblock on the highway, preventing vehicles travelling from Limuru toward Nairobi. The closure left many early-morning commuters stranded, with public transport services largely unavailable in the area.
Security was also heightened, with a significant police presence deployed ahead of expected demonstrations in several towns across the country.
Meanwhile, Thika Road was closed at the Roysambu Roundabout and Allsops, while Mombasa Road was blocked at Mlolongo. Public service vehicles (matatus) were not being allowed to enter Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
