Kalonzo praised Ngei as a remarkable entrepreneur whose journey from humble beginnings inspired many across the country.

He noted that Ngei started out as a second-hand clothes trader before establishing Makindu Motors Ltd, which grew into one of Kenya’s leading automobile assembly companies.

“His vision, determination and hard work enabled him to create employment opportunities for many people while becoming a role model for countless young entrepreneurs,” Kalonzo said.

He also honoured the couple’s partnership, describing them as a symbol of unity, resilience and grace.

“Their untimely passing is a huge loss not only to their family but also to the business community, the people of Ukambani and the nation as a whole,” he added.

Quoting Isaiah 41:10, Kalonzo offered words of comfort to the bereaved family, saying: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

He further extended his sympathies on behalf of his family and the Wiper Patriotic Front, praying for strength and peace for the couple’s children, relatives and all those affected by the loss.

The condolence message follows the fatal crash that occurred on Saturday in the Kiboko area of Kibwezi, Makueni County.

Police said the couple was travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi when their pick-up collided head-on with an oncoming trailer at around midday.

Stephen Ngei and Giannaphina Mumbua died at the scene, while a company employee who was travelling with them sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officers from Mashuru Police Station visited the scene, documented the accident and arranged for the wreckage to be removed. The bodies were later transferred to Montenzuma Mortuary in Machakos.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident. The deceased were widely recognised for their significant contribution to the motorcycle industry in Africa and were reportedly travelling towards Emali when the crash occurred.
