France has had a number of talented attacking players over the years but none have been better at scoring goals than Kylian Mbappe after scoring his goals in the opening game of the World Cup against Senegal.
The Real Madrid striker has become France’s all-time top scorer, surpassing Giroud in the goalscoring record for Les Bleus with his 58th goal at just 27 years old.

“Congratulations Kylian,” Giroud said on BBC One, as a pundit for France’s game against Senegal. “I’m happy for him.”
“It’s understandable, it was expected. He’s going to break all the records – the number of appearances and goals. I think he can easily reach 100 goals and maybe [break] Miroslav Klose’s World Cup record. He’s had great results in World Cups and big games.”
Tuesday’s goals took him to 14 goals in the World Cup – just two behind Germany’s Klose, who holds the record with 16 goals, which has now been equalled by Lionel Messi.
“He knows where he wants to go, he’s a leader and that was evident from a young age. He’s an incredibly talented player and I think he’s a great leader on and off the field.”
