Nairobi Lady Names and Shames a ‘Sharp Boy’s Who Allegedly Abandoned Her With Hotel Bill

A Nairobi woman has taken to social media to narrate a shocking experience in which a man she met through Facebook allegedly abandoned her at a restaurant, leaving her responsible for a bill amounting to more than Sh10,000.

In a post shared on her Facebook account, Juliette Awata said she had been interacting with the man online for some time, describing him as one of her followers who frequently engaged with her content. According to Awata, the two had developed a friendly rapport and occasionally exchanged flirtatious messages.

She said the man invited her for drinks at a rooftop restaurant located at Sarit Centre on a Sunday evening. After reviewing his Facebook profile, which she said appeared genuine and featured photos and numerous friends, she agreed to the meeting.

Awata recounted that upon arrival, she found the man already seated and enjoying a drink. He reportedly ordered a cocktail and cheese fries for her, and the two spent time chatting as they got to know each other better.

However, the evening took an unexpected turn when the man began excusing himself to take phone calls. After returning from the first call, he allegedly stepped away again moments later, claiming he was handling an issue over the phone.

As time passed, Awata became concerned when he failed to return to the table and stopped responding to her messages. She later asked a waitress whether he had settled the bill, only to discover that he had allegedly left without paying.

According to her account, the restaurant staff informed her that not only had the man failed to pay for her order, but he had also left his own bill unsettled. Awata said she was temporarily detained by the establishment’s management as they sought information about the man before she eventually settled the bill herself.

She claimed that while her own order cost approximately Sh1,550, she ended up paying a total bill of about Sh10,000.

The incident left her embarrassed and shocked, especially because she believed she had taken precautions before agreeing to meet him.

Awata further alleged that after she confronted the man and threatened to expose him on social media if he failed to reimburse her, he deleted his Facebook account.

She has since appealed to members of the public who may know the man to help trace him, maintaining that he should refund the money she paid on his behalf.

The claims have since sparked reactions online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and urging caution when meeting individuals first encountered on social media platforms.
