Leaders from Western Kenya have renewed their push for the region to be considered for the Deputy President position in President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
The renewed lobbying was voiced during a meeting in Naivasha attended by key leaders including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, alongside governors and Members of Parliament from the region.

The leaders argued that Western Kenya, given its significant voting population and growing political support for the current administration, deserves stronger representation in top national leadership, including the second-highest office in the country.
Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, who presented a joint statement, said the region is seeking recognition that matches its contribution politically and economically.
He stated that Western Kenya is not requesting favours but demanding rightful inclusion in top leadership, citing its support for successive governments and its role in national development.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka noted that the region’s leaders are united in pushing for a larger share in government, saying Western Kenya has both the population size and qualified leadership to justify its claim.
He added that their push is rooted in fairness and inclusion rather than division, insisting that all regions should feel represented in government.
Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe emphasized that unity among Western leaders will be key in strengthening their bargaining position ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added that the region’s continued support for the current government should translate into meaningful representation and development benefits.
Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi called on leaders to rise above political competition and focus on securing long-term inclusion for future generations.
She said inclusive governance strengthens national unity and ensures that all communities feel represented in leadership structures.
