The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the Rift Valley are likely to receive showers and thunderstorms in a few places tonight. Morning hours are expected to be mostly sunny with isolated rainfall, before afternoon showers and thunderstorms develop in some areas.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, residents should expect showers in a few places tonight. The region is also forecast to experience sunny breaks with occasional morning rains and scattered afternoon showers.

In Northwestern Kenya, showers and thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas tonight and later in the afternoon, while mornings are likely to remain mostly sunny with light rains in some places. The department also warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots in parts of Turkana County.

Northeastern Kenya is expected to remain partly cloudy tonight, followed by sunny conditions during the day. However, strong southerly and southeasterly winds above 25 knots are forecast in parts of Marsabit County, Garissa County, Mandera County, Wajir County and Isiolo County.

The southeastern lowlands are expected to remain partly cloudy tonight with sunny intervals during the day and isolated morning rains before clearer afternoon conditions. Strong southerly winds are also expected in sections of Makueni County and Kitui County.

Along the coast, showers are expected in a few areas tonight and are likely to continue through the morning and afternoon. Strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots are also forecast across the entire coastal strip.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents in affected regions to remain alert, especially in areas likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds.

The warning comes as heavy rains continue to affect different parts of the country, increasing fears of flooding, poor road visibility and possible landslides in vulnerable areas.

Authorities have advised Kenyans to avoid walking or driving through flooded sections due to the danger of drowning or vehicles being swept away by fast-moving water.

Residents have also been cautioned against sheltering under trees or near grilled windows during thunderstorms because of the risk of lightning strikes and strong winds.

People living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas have been urged to stay vigilant as the rainy conditions persist, while motorists have been advised to drive carefully on slippery roads and during reduced visibility.
