Orengo Issues Warning to Ruto: Cease Attempts to Intimidate Courts

Siaya governor, James Orengo, has cautioned President William Ruto against persisting in his efforts to intimidate the judiciary. Orengo emphasizes that the president must acknowledge that he is not exempt from the law and should refrain from interfering with the independent functioning of the courts.

The governor has underscored the importance of preserving the freedom of the judiciary, asserting that any hindrance to its operations could lead to significant issues within the country. He urged the president and his associates to allow the courts to carry out their responsibilities without external interference.

Orengo made it clear that attempts to intimidate the courts would not be tolerated, emphasizing that no one in Kenya is above the law. He called upon the president to respect the judicial process and permit the courts to function without undue influence from politicians or government officials.

During the inauguration of a modern market at Nyadorera trading centre in the Alego/Usonga constituency, Orengo acknowledged the need to address corruption within the judiciary. However, he stressed the importance of following established legal procedures when dealing with corrupt judges and magistrates.

Orengo pointed out that the ongoing criticism of the judiciary by the Kenya Kwanza brigade stems from their dissatisfaction with certain court decisions. While acknowledging the existence of some rogue or corrupt individuals within the judiciary, Orengo cautioned against using isolated cases to cast a shadow over the entire legal system.

The Siaya governor concluded by urging President Ruto to actively promote the rule of law in the country and refrain from actions that could compromise the independence of the judiciary.
