The American low-cost airline, Spirit Airlines, has announced the suspension of its operations.
The organization’s leadership said the decision was due to the failure to secure $500 million in financial assistance from the Trump administration.
Spirit was in talks with the US government about a plan to save the company from bankruptcy, but those talks broke down.
In a statement posted on its website on Saturday, Spirit Airlines said it was with great regret that it had immediately begun the process of orderly termination of its operations.
The company was trying to pull itself out of bankruptcy proceedings for the second time in recent years, but the rise in jet fuel prices due to the war between the United States, Israel and Iran added to the severe financial pressure.
According to the company, all scheduled Spirit flights have been canceled.
The statement added that passengers who purchased tickets directly through Spirit using a debit or credit card will be refunded directly through the method they used to pay.
Those who purchased tickets through travel agents have been asked to contact their agents directly for a refund.
However, compensation for those who paid for tickets with vouchers, travel points or other means will be determined later in the bankruptcy court process.
