Two people sustained injuries during an armed robbery at an MPesa shop in Ondisore Market, Gem Wagai sub-county, Siaya County.
Police reported that the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday when five armed men on two motorcycles with hidden number plates stormed the shop, shooting the victims before fleeing.

The injured were initially taken to St. David Community Health Centre and later referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further treatment. One victim was shot in the left shoulder, while the other sustained a gunshot to the left thigh. Both are reportedly in stable condition.
Investigators recovered two spent cartridges at the scene, which are expected to assist in identifying the perpetrators. Authorities said it was not immediately clear if any money or valuables were stolen as investigations into the motive and suspects continue.
Police noted a rise in crime in the area and have deployed additional detectives to track the assailants.

In a separate incident, a 42-year-old casual laborer, David Okutoi, died from head injuries after a building pillar collapsed during a demolition exercise in Kiminini sub-county, Trans Nzoia County. The accident occurred on March 20, 2026, but was reported on March 26 by his wife.
Okutoi was hospitalized at Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Referral Hospital for five days before succumbing to his injuries on March 25. His body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police are pursuing leads into the case.
