Fear Grips Kisumu Village as Criminal Gang Burns Homes and Extorts Money

Alungo village in West Seme, Kisumu County, is experiencing heightened tension as a criminal gang has surfaced, targeting residences and demanding cash and valuables.

The gang threatens to set houses on fire if their demands are not met, leading to a pervasive sense of fear among the residents.

The alarming situation has resulted in three homes being set ablaze, and in one incident, a couple was reportedly murdered. The gang not only inflicts physical harm on its victims but also adds to the distress by destroying property.

Citizens in Alungo village are urgently calling on the government to intervene and provide assistance, as none of them feel safe, and their lives are at risk.

In a recent tragic incident, Kennedy Odhiambo Otieno and Sheilla Akinyi Oburu were brutally attacked and killed in their home, which was subsequently set on fire.

Residents reveal that the gang follows a pattern of dropping leaflets at targeted homes, issuing a two-week ultimatum for the occupants to surrender money and valuables or face dire consequences.

The escalating violence and property damage have left the community living in constant fear due to the sudden emergence of these criminal gangs.”
