Met Department Issues Warning of Heavy Rainfall Over the Weekend

According to the meteorologists, certain areas, especially in the highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, should expect isolated storms and substantial rainfall. Regions situated South of the Rift Valley, parts of the Coastal strip, and the South-Eastern lowlands are also anticipated to experience precipitation.

The Meteorological Department has additionally highlighted that Isiolo and Samburu Counties might encounter rainfall starting from Friday and extending through Monday.

In response to last week’s heavy rains in various parts of the country, the Nairobi County Government mobilized emergency response teams to Githogoro and Mukuru areas to address the damage. In an official statement, the county administration revealed that the Nairobi County Rapid Response team, led by Chief Officer Bramwel Simiyu, is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment to determine the extent of the impact caused by the recent heavy rains.

“The Nairobi County Rapid Response team, led by Chief Officer Bramwel Simiyu, is currently carrying out a joint County-wide assessment exercise with Red Cross/DMOs to establish the extent of the impact of last evening’s heavy rains,” the statement reads in part.

The intense rainfall disrupted normal activities, leading to flooded streets and temporary closures of some businesses. Motorists and commuters also faced challenges due to impassable roads, causing transportation disruptions in various parts of the city.
