The injured pupil was rushed to hospital but later died from the head injuries.
Authorities said the Form Three student later presented himself at Embobut Police Station, where he is currently being held as detectives continue investigations ahead of possible murder charges. Officers who visited the scene recovered a wooden club believed to have been used in the assault.
In a separate incident in Khayega, Kakamega County, the body of a 43-year-old woman identified as Alice Khamera was discovered by the roadside on March 3. Police reported that the body had visible head injuries and suspect the woman may have been murdered. The body was moved to a mortuary as investigators work to establish the motive.
Meanwhile in Kaptembwo, Nakuru County, detectives are probing the death of a 35-year-old night guard, Shadrack Rono, whose body was found hanging inside a compressor room at a factory where he worked. Police said a rope was tied around his neck and attached to a metal bar, but the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
His body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Elsewhere in Tongaren, Bungoma County, a suspected chicken thief was killed by a mob after he was allegedly caught stealing poultry from a home on March 3. Police said the man attempted to escape and ran into a nearby house, but the crowd reportedly set him on fire. His body was later moved to the mortuary.

Authorities have strongly condemned mob justice, urging members of the public to hand suspects over to police instead of taking the law into their own hands. Officials note that more than 500 people were killed in mob lynching incidents across Kenya last year.
