A man who dashed toward President William Ruto while he was addressing a gathering in Wajir has explained that he had no bad intentions and only wanted to greet the Head of State.
In a video circulating online, the man said he hoped to speak with the President about his plans to vie for an MCA seat in his home area.
“Mimi nilitaka kuongea na Rais kwa sababu nasimama kiti ya MCA huko kwetu,” he said.
He explained that the President was wrapping up his speech when he moved forward, unaware that his actions would trigger alarm. He added that he stumbled onto the carpet near the podium before security officers carried him away.

Despite the disruption, he said he remains hopeful of eventually meeting the President.
The incident happened as President Ruto was speaking to beneficiaries of the Nyota Fund in Mandera when the man suddenly broke from the crowd and ran toward the stage. Security personnel quickly restrained him, briefly interrupting the event.
However, the President urged his security team to remain calm.
“Eei, so sorry, leave him alone, let him relax there. He should sit down somewhere there, and I will see him later,” Ruto said, signalling officers to ease their response. The function then continued without further disturbance.
Earlier, on February 6, a similar security scare occurred in Mombasa during a Nyota youth empowerment event at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground. Another man rushed toward the podium as the President was addressing beneficiaries of Sh147 million in start-up capital distributed to 5,880 young entrepreneurs from Mombasa, Kwale and Taita-Taveta counties.

After the man approached the dais, security officers stepped in, but Ruto again intervened, briefly engaging him in a light-hearted exchange that drew laughter from the crowd.
The President asked his name, where he had come from, and whether he was a beneficiary of the programme before instructing him to wait until the event concluded. The man was later escorted away calmly.
