Bandari FC concluded their first-leg matches in the FKF Premier League with a 1-0 victory over the struggling Nzoia Sugar FC, who currently occupies the bottom spot in the league.
In front of a home crowd, Bandari secured the lone goal in the 26th minute, with Umar Kasumba heading the ball into the opponent’s net, assisted by James Kinyanjui. The match unfolded at the KPA Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday.
Bandari FC’s Coach, John Baraza, expressed his satisfaction with how his players executed the game plan, emphasizing that the win instilled hope in the team. He highlighted their overarching goal for the season, which is to secure the FKF Premier League title for the first time in the club’s history. Baraza also hinted at signing two or three new players during the January transfer window to address the void left by seriously injured players and bolster the team.
On the other side, Nzoia Sugar FC’s Coach, Godfrey Oduor, commended his players for their resilience in adverse weather conditions in Mombasa and their performance against a team with high-quality players. He noted that despite creating numerous chances, the team failed to convert any, which ultimately made the difference in the game. Oduor mentioned financial constraints, indicating that they won’t be able to acquire new players but expressed the desire to sign young talents from lower leagues to aid their battle against relegation.
The match saw the presence of notable figures, including Nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi and Bandari officials, including Vice Chairman Twaha Mbarak and acting CEO Tony Kibwana. Following the victory, Bandari FC climbed to the fourth position with 29 points from 17 matches, while Nzoia Sugar FC remains at the bottom of the table with 13 points after an equal number of games played.
