Exams Run Smoothly Nationwide, Says Interior PS Omollo

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has assured Kenyans that the ongoing national assessment exams are running smoothly without any major disruptions.

Omollo said the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), which began on Monday, have so far been incident-free thanks to strong coordination between various government agencies.

“Since the exams began, we haven’t had any serious incidents. This is due to effective collaboration among all stakeholders,” he noted.

Speaking on Wednesday after opening an exam container at the Starehe Deputy County Commissioner’s office, Omollo emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is working closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure security and efficient distribution of exam materials.

He revealed that over 600 containers have been placed across sub-counties to safely store and dispatch exam papers.

While acknowledging that the ongoing short rains have caused access challenges in some regions, resulting in minor delays, Omollo assured that teams on the ground acted promptly to prevent any compromise to exam integrity.

He cited a case in Tana River County, which was quickly resolved, adding that contingency plans are in place to airlift exam materials to inaccessible areas if needed.

The PS also confirmed that a few candidates had fallen ill or been hospitalised but were still able to sit their exams after swift coordination by education and security teams.

Omollo reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining the credibility of the exams through close cooperation between multiple government agencies.

Meanwhile, Basic Education PS Julius Bitok said on Tuesday that all reported issues, including delays and misplaced papers, had been addressed.

“Despite a few minor hitches, both the KPSEA and KJSEA have been conducted successfully. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) swiftly resolved any isolated issues to ensure every learner completed their exams without disruption,” Bitok said.
