Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero’s driver has been arraigned in a Nairobi court after being linked to a viral video showing him allegedly breaking traffic laws.
The video, filmed by CNN journalist Larry Madowo, captured the driver driving on the wrong side of the road while hurling insults at other motorists. MP Orero, who was in the vehicle, appeared unbothered and even dared Madowo to share the footage with President William Ruto—a remark widely criticized as arrogant.

Following the public backlash, the National Police Service (NPS) condemned the misuse of VIP privileges to obstruct traffic. Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri clarified that only specific vehicles—such as ambulances, fire engines, and the President’s or Deputy President’s motorcades—are legally allowed to interfere with traffic flow.
Traffic Police Commandant Fredrick Ochieng’ noted that the viral video would be used to confirm the car’s registration details and identify the driver. He emphasized that only officers managing long-duration incidents are authorized to control or divert traffic.
Ochieng’ added that another recent case involved a vehicle with fake diplomatic plates also caught driving on the wrong side of the road, underscoring the growing problem of impunity among motorists.
The arraignment has reignited public debate on road discipline and the abuse of VIP status, with many Kenyans calling for equal enforcement of traffic laws for all.
