The champions, who secured Kenya’s place among the world’s athletics giants, were greeted with song, dance, and cheers from fans, leaders, and government officials.
Leading the reception was Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, representing Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, who praised the athletes for their resilience and brilliance.
“Once again, our champions have placed Kenya on the global stage. We are proud of their discipline, strength, and unmatched talent,” Mvurya said in a statement.
Other dignitaries at the airport included Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, MPs Mark Nyamita (Uriri) and Peter Masara (Suna West), alongside hundreds of supporters who sang and danced as the athletes arrived.
Kenya finished second overall behind the United States, collecting 11 medals — 7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze — to cement its dominance in middle and long-distance races.
Among the standout performers was Beatrice Chebet, who bagged double gold in the 10,000m (30:37.61) and 5,000m, as well as Faith Kipyegon, who stormed to victory in the 1,500m, adding another world title to her decorated career.

Officials announced that a national celebration ceremony will soon be held to formally honour the medalists and recognise their contribution to Kenya’s rich sporting heritage.
