Former Siaya County Assembly clerk Felix Isaac Olwero, 50, was on Monday morning shot dead by police in Kombewa, Kisumu County, in what authorities later admitted was a case of mistaken identity.
Olwero was gunned down near his White House Resort after officers, responding to an attempted burglary, mistook him for one of the suspects.

According to police reports, the resort’s manager had raised alarm over a group of burglars attempting to break in—the fifth such incident in recent days. Officers rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and later spotted five men approaching. Believing they were armed with pangas and crude weapons, police opened fire, fatally shooting Olwero, who was actually the owner responding to the commotion.
One suspect reportedly fled into the darkness, while police later realized their fatal error after learning the deceased was the former clerk and proprietor of the resort.
The incident is now under investigation, with police acknowledging the killing as a mistaken identity shooting. Olwero’s body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy, as residents and the resort’s management called for increased patrols to curb recurring burglary attempts in the area.
