School Principal Clara Mitei confirmed the closure, saying the decision was made to help restore order.
“It’s true that the school has been closed after last night’s unrest by students,” Mitei said. “We allowed the students to return home at 7am today (Sunday) after the situation became unmanageable and disrupted normal learning activities.”
The protest reportedly erupted after learners raised concerns over alleged sexual misconduct by certain academic staff, alongside other unresolved grievances.
The situation escalated into chaos, resulting in a stampede in which several students suffered minor injuries.
According to police, those injured were taken to St. Claire Kaplong Mission Hospital for medical attention.
The protest also resulted in damage to school property.
Authorities have since launched investigations into the allegations, while education officials assess the way forward regarding the school’s reopening.
As of now, no official word has been given on possible disciplinary measures or when learning will resume.
