The events, which took place in Rang’ala and Sigomere areas of Ugunja Constituency, were met with celebrations by residents anticipating connection to the national power grid.
In Rang’ala, the project aims to connect more than 177 households, with expectations that it will boost local businesses, enhance livelihoods, and drive development in the area.
In Sigomere Ward, Wandayi also launched the Asango Rural Electrification Project, which will benefit over 70 homes. The new power connections are expected to improve community security, support learning institutions, and strengthen small-scale trade.

Wandayi was joined by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, Kenya Pipeline MD Joe Sang, and senior officials from Kenya Power. Representing the CEO of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) was Beatrice Njuguna, GM for Information, Education, and Communication, alongside other REREC staff.

While speaking at the home of project beneficiary Mama Sarah Atieno, CS Wandayi reiterated the government’s goal of achieving nationwide energy access through sustainable infrastructure development.
He reminded locals that in February, the government allocated KSh1.5 billion for rural electrification in Siaya, underscoring its dedication to equal distribution of resources.

President William Ruto, during a recent meeting with Siaya leaders at State House, announced that KSh1.6 billion has been set aside for a last-mile connectivity initiative targeting 16,000 households in the county.
An additional KSh500 million is being sought to connect a further 5,000 homes.
