Over 14 Car Models Omitted from KRA’s New Tax Valuation List

More than 14 vehicle models are missing from the Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) latest price guide, which will be used to calculate import taxes on used cars starting July 1—raising concern within the motor industry over the risk of erratic and inflated duty charges.

Among the excluded models are the Subaru Impreza G4 (1.59-litre petrol), non-hybrid Toyota Vitz, Mazda Atenza Sedan GJEFP (2.0-litre petrol), and the Toyota Harrier 2WD ZSU60.

The omissions appear in KRA’s newly published Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP) list, which forms the basis for determining tax on second-hand car imports after applying depreciation rates.

Without official CRSP values, KRA may resort to using market prices from source countries to calculate taxes—a method that has previously sparked criticism from dealers over resulting tax hikes and lack of consistency.
