Inooro TV Fires Simon Kibe Over Alleged Ethical Breach

Nairobi, Kenya —Inooro TV has terminated the contract of renowned journalist and presenter Simon Kibe following allegations of ethical misconduct.

Kibe, a popular figure among vernacular TV audiences, was best known for hosting three human-interest shows: Njeraini Ciitu, Wathe Ti Kwiremwo, and Wathire Ku.

The programs, which aired on Inooro TV, focused on emotionally compelling stories — from incarcerated individuals sharing their paths to prison, to people living with disabilities overcoming extraordinary odds, and families seeking help to locate their missing loved ones.

However, the veteran journalist is now at the center of controversy after reports emerged that he had allegedly demanded payment from guests in exchange for having their stories featured on air — a practice that goes against journalistic ethics and the professional standards set by the Royal Media Services (RMS), which owns Inooro TV.

According to insiders, the complaints originated from several guests who had appeared or sought to appear on Kibe’s shows and were allegedly asked to pay facilitation fees — a move considered exploitative, especially given the vulnerable nature of many of the interviewees.

Kibe’s show Njeraini Ciitu had gained national acclaim for its raw and heartfelt interviews with inmates, allowing the public to better understand the complex personal and social dynamics that lead individuals to commit crimes.

Wathe Ti Kwiremwo inspired many by featuring people with disabilities who defied odds to succeed. Wathire Ku provided a platform for distressed families to reach out to the public for help in locating missing relatives.

The termination has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some viewers expressing disappointment over the allegations, while others called for a thorough and fair investigation to ensure accountability.

As of now, RMS has not announced who will take over the hosting duties of the three shows, nor whether they will continue in their current format.

Simon Kibe has yet to issue a public statement regarding the matter.
