Fresh from a court appearance and release on bail, Natembeya made stopovers in multiple towns as he made his way to Kitale. He was accompanied by Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah during a tour of Kakamega Town, where crowds warmly welcomed them.

Unlike an earlier political rally on May 24, when DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala was teargassed by police, Monday’s events proceeded peacefully.

Speaking to supporters in Kakamega, Natembeya called for unity among Western region communities and criticized the systemic exclusion of the region’s professionals from public sector jobs.

“We are a highly educated community, yet we still fight for government opportunities. While others show up in lorries for police recruitment, we come in wheelbarrows,” he said.

He also accused the state of sabotaging key institutions like Mumias and Nzoia Sugar, vowing not to be silenced. “I am now a general and a commando—with soldiers. The Constitution shields me,” he declared.

Earlier in the day, Natembeya touched down at Kisumu International Airport, where he began his regional tour with rallies in Luanda, Chavakali, and Kakamega. His motorcade was expected to proceed through Bungoma, Webuye, Chwele, Kimilili, Kamukuywa, and Kiminini before concluding in Kitale.

According to his party DAP-K, his final homecoming rally in Kitale will focus on unity, prayer, and regional development. It’s also his first major public appearance in his home county since being charged with corruption on May 20. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a KSh500,000 cash bail, with the court barring him from accessing his office for 60 days.

While rallying behind his “Tawe Movement,” Natembeya told residents in Luanda that the initiative aims to eradicate poverty, unemployment, and hunger in the region.

He is expected to be joined by several opposition leaders at the Kitale event, signaling a strong political comeback.

Meanwhile, on May 24, police used teargas to break up a rally organized by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP party in Kakamega.
