Authorities say they are investigating the matter to uncover the truth behind the MP’s reported disappearance and dramatic reappearance.
Koimburi was found on Monday morning lying in a Jacaranda coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Kiambu County—nearly 12 hours after his family reported he had been kidnapped in Mugutha. He was later taken to hospital for treatment.
However, police now believe the MP orchestrated the abduction. Investigators are trying to determine how those who found him knew where he was and are examining inconsistencies in the reported timeline.
An officer familiar with the case said Koimburi’s phone had been off since Friday, when police attempted to arrest him in connection with a land fraud case. During the failed arrest, Koimburi reportedly escaped on a motorcycle after abandoning his vehicle.
His driver was later detained and told police that Koimburi had instructed him to drop him off after learning he was being pursued.
On Monday, investigators visited several key locations—including a church where Koimburi was last seen, the alleged abduction site, the plantation where he was found, and two hospitals he visited. They also collected witness statements and reviewed the extent of the MP’s reported injuries.
According to Koimburi and his wife, Ann, two men disguised as churchgoers abducted him outside the church on Sunday. The men allegedly forced him into a silver Subaru Forester with fake plates. Ann said she tried to intervene but was injured in the struggle.
At the time of his discovery, Koimburi was found unconscious and still wearing the same navy blue suit from Sunday.
Police have not yet confirmed the motive behind the incident and are continuing their investigation. The matter has sparked public debate, with many expressing skepticism and concern over the alleged abduction.
