The Guild will convene a Special General Meeting to elect its Executive Council for the 2025–2027 term and deliberate on pressing media industry matters.

Kananu, the current KEG President, is seeking a second term, while Okwara is making her debut bid, promising fresh leadership and a reform-driven agenda.

Okwara’s campaign is anchored on four pillars: rebuilding public trust in the media, establishing a peer review system, expanding professional development, and enhancing member welfare. She envisions a more inclusive and future-ready KEG.

Kananu, running under the slogan “Tried, Tested, Trusted,” is highlighting her leadership track record and commitment to press freedom, mentorship, gender equity, innovation, and unity within the Guild—particularly advocating for the empowerment of women in media.

The elections were originally slated for April 12 but were postponed due to lack of quorum. Saturday’s session will be held virtually and will also feature the release of KEG’s 2024 Annual Report and the beginning of a constitutional review process.

KEG plays a key role in promoting journalistic ethics, press freedom, and professional excellence, while also defending media rights and fostering public trust in Kenyan journalism.
