Speaking at an interdenominational church service in Busia, Kindiki condemned Gachagua’s comments, calling them dangerous and irresponsible.
He firmly reassured Kenyans that the government will not tolerate any form of violence before, during, or after the 2027 general elections.
“Kenya will never go back to the dark days of political violence—not in 2027, not ever. We painfully learned our lesson from the 2007/2008 crisis. It must never be repeated,” Kindiki declared.
Gachagua, in a televised interview on Friday, had warned that if the 2027 elections are not handled properly, the country could face violence worse than the 2007/2008 post-election unrest.
“With the current national mood, if the IEBC mishandles the elections, there may be no country left. What happened in 2007 would look like a Christmas celebration compared to what might come,” Gachagua said.
He further cautioned electoral commissioners against manipulating the election in favor of President William Ruto, claiming the public is eager for change and won’t accept a rigged outcome.
Gachagua’s remarks have sparked widespread condemnation, with numerous leaders speaking out against him.
Among them, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi criticized the former Deputy President’s statements, branding them as “reckless” and “irresponsible.”
