Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has provided a new update on the investigation into the murder of Kaspul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.

Speaking to the press on the morning of Thursday, May 5, 2025, the IG confirmed that detectives have recovered the firearm used in the killing.
“Today, I share key findings from an in-depth ballistic analysis into the tragic death of Charles Were,” Kanja stated. “The report conclusively ties a Sassilmaz pistol—found at the home of one of the suspects—to the fatal shots that killed the MP.”
Kanja further noted that the weapon is not only linked to the MP’s murder but has also been connected to a string of other criminal incidents.
