Ten individuals have been apprehended in Makueni for the alleged unlawful slaughter of 15 donkeys. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in Kwa Kathoka village, Kikumini sub-location, Makueni Sub County, and was reported by an administrator who observed suspicious donkey slaughtering activities.
According to Eastern regional police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the suspects admitted to slaughtering the 15 donkeys, suspected to be stolen. Acting on the report, police set up an ambush at a feeder road, intercepting two vehicles (Reg.No. KDB 991U, Toyota Fielder, and KCK 434 M, Toyota Wish) transporting suspected donkey meat to Shauri Moyo Market in Nairobi.
Upon visiting the suspects’ homestead, authorities discovered buried donkey hooves and heads, indicating a history of illegal donkey slaughtering at the location. The suspects, believed to have been engaged in this activity for a while, are currently detained at Makueni Police Station, awaiting court proceedings.
This incident follows a similar occurrence last week in Emali, Makueni County, where a 55-year-old man engaged in the business of slaughtering and selling donkey meat was arrested. Police found nine donkey carcasses and one live donkey in Kiumone village, Ithumba location, Emali.
