This brings the total number of MKU nursing students participating in apprenticeship programs in German hospitals to 25, with five students in the first group and eight in the second.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, confirmed that the students will head to Hochschule Koblenz University of Applied Sciences in Germany to begin their apprenticeships.
Prof. Jaganyi emphasized that the students will gain invaluable experience in the global healthcare sector, which will allow them to acquire practical skills and knowledge in diverse medical environments.
He also mentioned that 35 more students are set to join the initiative in the upcoming fourth cohort, providing them with similar apprenticeship opportunities in Germany.
Additionally, he noted that the university has another program offering apprenticeships in Austria in collaboration with Lebenshilfe Tirol, an organization focused on supporting people with disabilities.
A key element of the program is the requirement for proficiency in the German language, supported by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), which has provided language instructors at the university to teach German.
Dr. Vincent Gaitho, Chairman of the University Council, emphasized the importance of strong networks in today’s competitive world.
“We are proud of the partnerships and collaborations that offer our students both academic and practical exposure, especially in sectors that align with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” he said.
Furthermore, he shared that an AI-powered German Language Training Program will be introduced to boost learning efficiency and help more students qualify for international apprenticeship opportunities.
