Dr. Johansen Oduor, the Chief Government pathologist, has received a generous offer for a fully-funded trip to Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Tsavo as a token of appreciation for his continuous dedication to local pathology work.
Former Kenya Tourism Federation Chairman, Mohammed Hersi, extended the invitation on Thursday, commending Dr. Oduor’s unwavering commitment to his field of pathology.
“This individual demonstrates exceptional selflessness. His dedication is not driven by financial gain. The recent case of (Rita) Waeni has deeply affected him, and he truly deserves a respite with his partner. As a gesture of gratitude, Dr. Oduor is invited for a weekend getaway at Salt Lick Safari Lodge, where he can relax and rejuvenate,” Hersi shared on his social media account.
“Dr. Oduor, you’ve earned it. We will arrange for your transportation from the Madaraka Express station in Voi, allowing you to experience the renowned Salt Lick Safari Lodge and its sister property, Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa, nestled within Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Your stay will be fully catered.”
Dr. Oduor recently conducted the autopsy of Rita Waeni, a murdered student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Her severed head and dismembered body were discovered in Kiambaa and Roysambu, respectively.
Following the procedure, Dr. Oduor informed reporters that the autopsy revealed the cause of death as strangulation, followed by brutal dismemberment by the perpetrator.
“The head was severed at the level of the C5 vertebrae. There were signs of bruising on the scalp, likely caused by blunt force trauma. Examination of the neck revealed fractures, which are indicative of a homicide,” Dr. Oduor stated.
“We observed fractures in the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage, along with evidence of hemorrhaging. Based on these findings, we can conclude that the young woman was strangled to death before being decapitated and her body disposed of.”
During the initial autopsy of Waeni’s dismembered remains, Dr. Oduor expressed profound shock at the gruesomeness of her murder, emphasizing that such a case was unprecedented in his extensive career as a pathologist.
