A boda boda rider in Eldoret has been arrested for allegedly murdering a Form 2 student, who is believed to have been his girlfriend.

The incident occurred at Gem Farm in the Moiben sub-county of Uasin Gishu County. According to police, the suspect voluntarily turned himself in on Friday and confessed to the crime.
Uasin Gishu County police commander, Benjamin Mwanthi, reported that the suspect had picked up the girl from a local mixed secondary school and took her to a nearby lodging. After spending time together, the man reportedly contacted the local chief to inform him of the murder.
Following the confession, the suspect walked to a nearby police station to report the crime. Officers, along with the chief, rushed to the scene, where they found the girl’s body wrapped in a blanket.
The suspect, who runs a boda boda business in the area, was arrested, and an investigation into the motive for the killing is ongoing. While the cause remains unclear, authorities suspect the girl was strangled after a disagreement.
Mwanthi urged parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts, especially those attending day schools, to ensure their safety.
The suspect is currently in custody, cooperating with investigators, and will be processed for court after interrogation. The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community.
