The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) stated that the ship’s arrival underscores Kenya’s increasing popularity as a cruise destination, following recent visits by MS Europa and MS World Odyssey, known for the “Semester at Sea” program.

Davis Chirchir, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, praised the ship’s arrival as evidence of Kenya’s growing appeal as a top tourist destination.
The rise in cruise ship visits is attributed to improvements in Mombasa Port’s infrastructure, such as the new cruise terminal and strategic developments, which have helped position Kenya as a key stop for international cruise lines.

“With a length of 294 meters and a draft of 8.3 meters, the Norwegian Dawn is one of the largest cruise ships to visit Mombasa, bringing over 2,000 tourists, mainly from the United States, to Kenya’s shores,” the statement noted. It also highlighted that modern infrastructure and developments have led to increased cruise ship visits to both Mombasa and Lamu, solidifying Kenya’s role as a major destination for international liners.

The ship was guided into the port early in the morning by Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director, Capt. William Ruto, ensuring a smooth arrival for the cruise liner.
The visitors are set to tour popular sites such as Fort Jesus, Haller Park, Diani Beach, and Tsavo National Park, offering a substantial boost to the local tourism industry.

The government has prioritized improving Mombasa’s cruise terminal and road networks to facilitate smoother travel for tourists exploring the region.
