The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has identified 10 petrol stations in a recent nationwide crackdown on fuel quality violations.
Between October and December 2025, EPRA conducted 4,394 tests across 967 petroleum sites. While 957 sites (98.97%) complied with regulations, 10 sites (1.03%) were found non-compliant.

Among the violations:
On October 23, a station in Ngata, Nakuru County, was found selling diesel mixed with domestic kerosene. The station later reopened after upgrading products and paying Sh140,144 in taxes and penalties.
On October 30, a truck in Maungu, Taita Taveta, was impounded for carrying high-sulphur diesel adulterated with kerosene. The case is ongoing in court.
On November 13, a Bukura station in Kakamega was found selling adulterated diesel and remains closed.
On November 21, a Wote station in Makueni County sold diesel intended for export but later reopened after product upgrades and paying Sh132,780 in taxes and penalties.

On November 26, two trucks in Likoni, Mombasa, carrying diesel for export were impounded; cases are still pending in court.
On December 7, diesel stored in jerrycans in Moyale, Marsabit County, suspected to contain high sulphur and smuggled fuel, was impounded and is under investigation.
EPRA has urged the public to report suspected fuel adulteration or illegal export through its hotline (0709 366 000), USSD (*363#), or SMS service (40850) to enhance enforcement and compliance.
