The victim, identified as Shelmic Wambui Muratha, lived on the eighth floor of Boma Yangu Estate along Kinshasa Road. Neighbours raised the alarm after noticing smoke coming from her house. Responders forced the door open, put out the flames, and discovered her body lying on the floor with burn marks and stab wounds to the chest.
Officers say the apartment had been ransacked, suggesting the killer set the fire to cover up the crime. Only a few clothes and a mosquito net were damaged before the blaze was contained. The attacker escaped and remains at large.
The body was moved to the mortuary for post-mortem as detectives pursue leads.
