In footage seen by The Lower Eastern Times, the former president was seen walking to Raila’s fresh gravesite—where the opposition leader was interred on October 19, 2025—and standing silently to pay his respects.

With his head bowed in prayer, Uhuru remained still for several moments, occasionally extending his hand toward the grave before resuming his quiet reflection. Family members nearby offered silent support as he paid his final tribute.

The visit carried deep emotional and symbolic weight, reflecting the long and complex relationship between the two leaders. Though they were once fierce rivals, their historic 2018 “handshake” marked a turning point in Kenya’s political history, easing post-election tensions and promoting national unity.

Uhuru’s gesture followed an emotional burial ceremony on Sunday, where hundreds of mourners in Siaya County broke through heavy security to access Raila’s final resting place.

Despite tight control by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service, and county enforcement officers, the crowd surged forward after the final prayers, chanting Raila’s name and singing liberation songs as they surrounded the grave.

The quiet visit by the former president came as the nation—and indeed the continent—continues to mourn Raila Odinga, a statesman remembered for his unwavering fight for democracy, justice, and equality.
