Suicide: Autopsy Reveals What Killed Jahmby Koikai’s Father

Daniel Koikai, father of the late reggae MC and advocate for menstrual health Jahmby Koikai, tragically took his own life.

An autopsy conducted at Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home in Mbagathi, Nairobi, indicates that Koikai died from a severe throat wound.

Pathologist Grace Midigo determined that Koikai succumbed to severe bleeding caused by a stab wound to his neck.

Koikai, aged 65, passed away on the morning of Friday, June 14, the same day his daughter Jahmby was to be laid to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery.

On that fateful morning around 9:15 am, he sent a message to his daughter Naserian Koikai that read, “AM SORRY IT HAD TO COME TO THIS”.

This led Naserian to visit his rented apartment at Tatu City Unity Block A5-11. Finding the door locked and receiving no response, she gained entry through a bedroom window.

Inside, she discovered her father’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, holding a knife in his right hand.

The police report states that Koikai had a throat laceration and his body was moved to Montezuma Funeral Home.

Daniel Koikai’s regrets

At Jahmby’s funeral, the absence of Daniel Koikai was notable, with his brother delivering the eulogy.

Earlier, during the requiem mass for his daughter, Koikai expressed remorse for his relationship with her. He publicly sought forgiveness for his failings as a father and for being absent in her life.

“Dear Jahmby my daughter, the time has come for me to atone for my actions or inactions as you embark on your final journey from this world. It has been one of the most challenging episodes in my life, particularly for your immediate family – your mother, sister, aunts, uncles, colleagues in the media, and friends both here and abroad,” Koikai stated.
