A total of 25 individuals, including foreign nationals from seven different countries, lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving four vehicles on a highway leading to Arusha, Tanzania’s northern city.
The incident occurred when a lorry registered in Kenya collided with three other vehicles, one of which was transporting foreign nationals who were volunteering at a local school.
According to a statement from the presidency issued on Sunday, the casualties comprised ten women, 14 men, and one girl.
Additionally, at least 21 individuals, including foreigners, sustained injuries in the crash.
Among the deceased were citizens from various countries, including the United States, South Africa, Kenya, Togo, Madagascar, and Burkina Faso.
Furthermore, those injured hailed from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Switzerland, Britain, and Mali, as stated in the presidency’s announcement.
Authorities are currently searching for the driver of the lorry responsible for the accident, who reportedly fled the scene.
In response to the tragedy, President Samia Hassan extended her condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations.
