Renowned Kenyan radio presenter Edward Carey Kwach has passed away while receiving treatment for meningitis, his family announced on Tuesday morning.

In an official statement issued by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri, it was confirmed that Kwach died on the night of April 28, 2025.
Kwach had been under medical care for several weeks and had recently made a public appeal for blood donations, which sparked widespread support from fans and fellow media professionals.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely loss of our beloved son and brother, Carey… His voice and presence on radio left an indelible mark, making him a cherished companion to many across the nation,” the statement said.
A prominent figure in Kenya’s radio landscape for over 20 years, Kwach was celebrated for his rich voice, quick wit, and passion for music.
He gained prominence in the early 2000s through his work on stations such as Capital FM and Homeboyz Radio, captivating audiences with his laid-back demeanor and impeccable musical selections.
At the time of his death, Kwach was a presenter at Spice FM, part of the Standard Group. His shows combined soulful music, pop culture discussions, and humor, earning him fans across all age groups.
Beyond his on-air presence, Kwach was also a mentor to many aspiring broadcasters, cementing his legacy within the media fraternity.
He is remembered fondly for his genuine personality and the authenticity he brought to his broadcasts.
Tributes have flooded social media, with colleagues, admirers, and public figures honoring his memory.
“Heartbreaking. A colleague and a friend. Rest in peace Edward Kwach,” said sports journalist Carol Radull.
Chiko Lawi of Capital FM recalled him as “a good friend,” while Maina Kageni described him as “the greatest radio personality Kenya has ever produced.”
The family expressed gratitude to all who supported Carey during his illness, particularly those who donated blood and sent messages of encouragement.
