Gatundu Water Firm Acquires 2,000 New Meters to Improve Billing

The Gatundu Water and Sanitation Company has received 2,000 new water meters under a government-supported programme aimed at strengthening service delivery and ensuring accurate billing.

The meters, supplied through the Conditional Liquidity Support Grant 2 Intervention 11 Project, will replace faulty and outdated devices that have been causing revenue losses and billing disputes.

Mary Njoki, a resident of Kamwangi town, welcomed the move, noting that households had struggled with inconsistent bills due to malfunctioning meters. “This replacement will bring clarity to our bills and help us plan our budgets better,” she said.

The installation exercise will begin in areas with the highest number of faulty meters, including Kamwangi town, Gatukuyu, Mang’u, Ngorongo, Igegania, Kanyoni, and Gituamba.

The new devices feature unique tracking codes that prevent resale if stolen, an innovation designed to tackle widespread theft of water infrastructure.

Company officials said the investment will help cut non-revenue water, boost operational efficiency, and secure sustainable water supply for more than 15,000 customers in Gatundu North constituency, Kiambu County.
